Nothing Like The Stacks

After meeting with Jon, who lives in the first phase of The Stacks, I decided to go see how they were fairing after the tornado ripped through this area of in-town Atlanta a long while back. Located in Cabbagetown, in the old cotton mill complex, The Stacks represent old meets new in every sense of the phrase.
A little history lesson here would be good. So, back in the 1880’s a European immigrant named Jacob Elsas created a huge textile area in what is now called Cabbagetown. The Fulton Mill itself was used for bagging cotton. No one lived in the mill at that point, but the workers lived in the surrounding 8 block area - Cabbagetown. And, the interesting part of this story is that these residents were brought from the Appalachia Mountains…by train. So, for many many many years, Cabbagetown was a complete town of its own with families who were descendants of these mill workers. In fact, a few descendants still live in Cabbagetown and the oral history you get from these individuals is amazing. (I could go on and on here about this history, but I will let you email me if you are truly that interested.)
Moving on to The Stacks. Phase One was completed in 2006 and Phase Two was almost completed when the tornado hit that long March ago - and consists of two buildings and 134 lofts. Finally, they are back and I must say, the lofts are extremely cool. (I hate that word, but will use it here because I hate the word “awesome” more.) Phase One is completely sold out - but there are some great re-sales and the majority of Phase One is one bedroom/one bathroom lofts. Phase Two consists of 80% 2bedroom/2bathroom lofts that start at 250K and go up to 400K. I went into one (around 1900 sq ft) - that was gorgeously decorated - and is listed at 302K. The ceilings are 25 feet high and combine large pieces of wood, with old beams, and brick. The 12 ft windows are amazing and it felt just really good. Instead of granite, there is quartz in the bathroom and kitchen counters, and the tile along the bathtubs and back splash of kitchen matches well.

The whole complex is getting a makeover with a million dollars worth of landscaping in the Spring and there is a pool, fitness center, a skyline rooftop terrace, and weirdly enough a tanning bed…It boasts itself as a NY style loft but I am hoping it can become famous as an Atlanta loft. And, just like the residents of long ago, you really don’t need to go anywhere if you work from home - because Cabbagetown has so many great restaurants and bars, you can just hang out in this area all the time - or walk to downtown, Inman Park..the list goes on and on. Please let me know if you want to take a look. It is worth it.
