Its Smarta Living Close To Marta: Part 3
Posted by Ashley Derrick on 10/29/08 in Atlanta Intown Lofts & Condos, Downtown Real Estate, Information
If you don’t want to caught on 75/85 trying to get to some place in Atlanta (like the picture here), then I would suggest living in-town. I have been suggesting this on my last two installments of “close to Marta living,” and I am hitting downtown in this post. I must tell you though, that there are loads of places to live in these areas - easy walking distance to Marta - and I will not talk about all of them. Sorry.
I find that if you live downtown or midtown, you are likely working close by and can walk, bike, or take Marta most places you want to go - what a novel approach! Let’s say we start at the Five-Points station in the midst of bustling GA State, downtown, and the tourist trap called The Underground. There are indeed so many places to live. Taking a quick brisk walk from the Marta stop are the Metropolitan, the William Oliver and the Healey Building and if you did not mind walking a mere 0.6 miles from Mitchell Street to Five points, you could live in the 1900 building that houses The Gordon Lofts. Or you could live in the 123 Luckie Street Condos. Living at this fabulous art-deco building puts you close to either the Five Points Station for all your needs (0.6 miles) or the Peachtree Center Station if you are heading North (0.3 miles.)
Let’s head North to Peachtree Center which links you to many hotels in downtown, loads of restaurants, AmericasMart (have you ever been in this place? Good God) and one condo very close to the stop - the older Peachtree Towers. I will tell you I have been in here a couple of times and feel like this place needs a serious face-lift. It smelled like smoke and the condos I went in were extremely dated. (I am sorry if I have offended people who may live here.) The Museum Tower condo is close by as well (0.5 miles) and here you live next to Centennial Olympic Park, the Coke Museum, and the Georgia Aquarium.
Onward to the Civic Center stop, you have this whole new development happening here. You can hop out of Marta and head to your condo at Twelve or the W (though you may have taken your helicopter to the W) or you may be going to the new fancy restaurants around like FAB and Room. It will take some time, but I do believe this area will soon have all your necessities very close by - including shopping, eating, and playing - all in a few block area. On a side note: I just received an email telling me that Twelve at Centennial Park is lowering their prices on “select” units to “rock bottom prices.” Basically they are now selling two bedrooms in the 225K range rather than the 300K range and so on. Let me know if you want more info on that.
I think I will stop here because once you get to North Avenue stop, you find yourself in la-la land of condos. I will continue to North and the Midtown in my next installment. In the meantime, learn more about what’s happening with Downtown, and go play!

Do you have any info on condo inventory in the downtown area? Whats on tap? What kind of development is on tap?
