It’s Smarta To Live Close To Marta: Part 1

I decided to start my adventure in Decatur since I live close by and can walk to the Decatur Square /Marta Station (pictured here) from my home. Decatur has a small cool town feel (with really high taxes) and really good services. Not to mention, it is very close to all things Atlanta (5 miles to Midtown). There are a number of condos/lofts to live in very close to the Marta station here. Not only do you have the station close to these places, but you have a load of shops, coffee places, and restaurants such as the famous-come in from the burbs-Brickstore Pub.
But let’s start with the places to live: Town Square Condos (not the best website but nice condos) are a mere 387 feet to the station. Imagine waking up in the morning, heading out the door to Java Monkey for some coffee, and taking Marta to work…all without getting gridlocked on Ponce or North. The Decatur Renaissance condos are probably about 450 feet to the station and are across the street from the Town Square condos. These both offer one and two bedroom condos.
Traveling by foot .3 miles down Ponce, you hit the Artisan and the Artisan II. I like the Artisan II better only because I have been in it 100 times, but it is well done with some very nice amenities - like the rooftop pool and outside fireplace. Further down (.4 miles), is the more pricey 33 West Ponce. These modern /contemporary condos are very close to Taqueria del Sol and really, you could jump off your balcony and get a margarita.
Of course, there are more like the Ice House Lofts (rental properties) that are a bit further away(.6 miles) and the new Talley Street Lofts which are actually closer to the Avondale Marta Station. I must visit the Talley Lofts soon as they have signs everywhere.
The next stop on the East line is East Lake, and there are a couple condos/townhomes on Dekalb Avenue that you could walk from to get to this station. But then you are kinda in between the East Lake and Edgewood stops. So, I think the next post will be places to live all the way to the Georgia State stop.
(Disclaimer: I am sure I am forgetting some, but I am not walking everywhere to find places I can’t remember. So, if I have forgotten one, please feel free to post it under comments.)

Rusty and I live at the Ice House Lofts and if it’s really .6 miles away, it doesn’t feel like it! We walk to the square and MARTA all the time. It’s about a five minute walk.
We would love to stay so close to downtown Decatur when we buy a place but I doubt we’ll find anything affordable enough, sadly.
