Buckhead’s Rodeo Drive

We have all seen buildings being torn down and heard all the hoopla about the bars and shops being misplaced (or put out of business) for over a year now…all for the new Streets of Buckhead. Atlanta’s own Rodeo Drive is supposedly coming to Buckhead. Will it work? I just keep wondering who the heck all of these rich people are buying up $2-12 million condos in this city, but the developers seem to know that indeed they are here to stay and are paving the way for many dressed up people to walk up and down streets of Atlanta.
Not getting into too many specifics, I will say that the plan was announced by Ben Carter Properties in August of 2007 and will feature office, retail, residential, and restaurant space over seven city blocks on 8 acres (on corners of Peachtree and East Paces Ferry.) The retail space will not be Old Navy or Gap, but rather places like Hermes and Oscar de la Renta. Point being, this place is going to be swanky. I can just imagine myself being pursued by the paparazzi as I sashay into The Capital Grill to eat my 24 ounce porterhouse steak. Or they will be waiting for me as I am wheeled out from my gluttonous meal. I as usual digress.
There has been much speculation in the recent months that this project faces some financial troubles and indeed a major hotel has backed out of the picture. It is known that things have scaled back a bit, but Carter insists that things are still on track and on schedule. Retail will be the biggest draw, but there will indeed be residences. Anyway, so keep a look out for it. (It’s not hard to miss) and once it gets more bones, I’ll start shooting pictures.
