Old School In Downtown

Photobucket

First, let me apologize for not posting much this summer. I have been frolicking at the pool tanning myself in this heat. Not really, but it sounds good. I promise to be better.

Anyway, I took a couple of potential clients to The Metropolitan last week and remembered why I love this building so much. Built in 1911, this 17 story building once housed banks before being developed in the 1960’s by none other than The Novare Group. They completely renovated the place -putting new walls, carpet, flooring, etc in each unit. In fact, the Australian Olympic team stayed here during the 1996 Olympics.

The building is a classic and my favorite parts are the massive steel beams that come up through many of the condos (some in the bathrooms) and of course the HUGE old safe that is located in the basement (pictured below). You feel as if you are walking back in time looking at this bank safe. I like to pretend I own a massive amount of gold plates sitting behind the steel and more steel and even more steel…

The carpets in the hallways need to be replaced again (they kinda look like they have not been replaced since the 1960’s) but there is certainly a community feeling in the building and residents were very friendly. Perfect for the young professional or student/grad student at Georgia State, you are in walking distance to anything downtown. I would think it is a perfect first buy for a grad student or a parent wanting an investment in the city.

As of August 1, 2008, there are 6 units available - the largest is a 2/1 for $144,900 and the lowest priced is a studio for $84K. Let me know if you are interested in looking!
