Aquarius Tower Delayed

Aquarius Tower, the 38 story condo tower which is planned to go up across the street from the Georgia Aquarium at the intersection of Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard and Luckie Street, has been put on hold.

Kevin Duffy, of the AJC, reported this week that the developer said

“construction has been delayed by design changes and efforts to secure tax allocation district financing, in which Atlanta Development Authority bond money funds the infrastructure. New taxes from the improved area, rather than developer dollars, would pay off the bonds”

If construction does get back on track, building could ramp up this spring and be completed sometime in 2010.

Charlotte is seeing some delays, too, though so far only the more expensive projects are getting the red light.
