Dekalb Ave. Condos and Townhomes, Oh My!

Who’s been on Dekalb Avenue lately? If you haven’t, you are in for a real surprise. For those of us who live in the area, Dekalb Avenue has gone from a lonely road full of warehouses and small industrial complexes to condo and townhome central. In the past two years, there have been 8 or so projects completed, getting started, or just breaking ground on Dekalb Avenue. So, I have decided to focus on just the new ones that are still being built or have not yet started. Otherwise, this blog entry would be two pages long, and you would lose all interest.

Axis: I don’t know what the final product will be like (there are pictures on the website), but man is their marketing superb. Located at 1300 Dekalb Avenue, they boast of their “exciting, sophisticated, and contemporary floor plans.” The 3 phases of Axis include green space, a dog walk, and my favorite thing – blue wood Earthcraft homes. Good for the architects and builders to go green on this one. And the price seems to stun you like Harry Potter’s wand. (From the high $170’s)

Beside Salon Red (where I get my hair done by the way), there is a small brick building that will be Clifton Commons. This two story building has lofts on the second floor which look like they have very tall ceilings and are very open. The ground floor is retail - a coffee shop and a snotty grocery store are going in there. More info to come when I get it!

Overlook at Lake ClaireOn down the road at 1800 Dekalb Avenue is Overlook At Lake Claire. Compared to the modern/sleek Axis, these “luxurious” townhomes are about as traditional as you can get. Colored in the more mellow and darker shades of yellow, brown, and green, these 3 story townhomes are Victorian-ish in style. It also takes mere seconds to walk to the new member’s only Lake Claire Pool. (From the mid to high $300’s)

Neoterra TownhomesRight next door to The Overlook is my favorite townhome complex on Dekalb – Neoterra Townhomes. (Someone here who named this likes Dungeon and Dragons….) Neoterra offers everything one wants in city dwelling – especially those who care for the environment while living in a city that loses 55 acres of trees a day. Green roofs, low e-glass on windows and doors, bamboo flooring, high efficiency HVAC units, rain catching irrigation system , and lots, lots more. Also, the roof top terraces (that are on ALL of the homes) have amazing views of downtown and across the Kirkwood area. I will stress again how cool those roof top terraces are. (From the mid to high $300’s)

Sutherland CornerAnd finally, closest to College Avenue and onward toward Decatur, are the Sutherland Corner Townhomes at 1950 Dekalb Avenue. The buyer of a townhome at Sutherland Corner can customize pretty much any detail he or she may want – from the actual floor plan to the light fixtures. The builders and realtors have coined, “make your mark” as their tag line. There are loads of ways to incorporate your own style into these 3 story homes. Enjoy! (From the $430’s)

Have a good time perusing Dekalb Avenue when you get some time. This part of Atlanta holds a lot of history and the area continues to flourish. Great neighborhoods are on each side of Dekalb Avenue and you can live in the middle of them all!

Wow, I have not been on Dekalb Ave. in over 2 years. HOW did condos get so expensive there?

Hello Ashley and ATL loft seekers! I’d like to introduce The Mercantile to you. We are going to be opening on Dekalb Avenue in the new Clifton Commons development. We’re a specialty grocery store focusing on prepared foods, local produce, interesting wines and warm, friendly service. I promise to bring The Mercantile to the neighborhood with as little “snotty” as possible. I can’t wait to introduce you to my business partner, Chef Samantha Enzmann and her fantastic seasonal meals you can take home. Look for us at 1660 Dekalb Avenue in late January/early February 2008. Feel free to contact me with questions at TheMercAtl@aol.com.
    Cheers!

Hello Ashley. I am amazed that you are able to determine that the Mercantile is a snotty grocery store seeing as they are yet to open and this will be their first location. My understanding is that they will be specialty grocery with lots of local produce and home made items. Sounds like a great addition to the neighborhood if you ask me. Perhaps you should have asked some one who is more informed (like the owners?).

Kim, I talked to the owner who was excited I even mentioned the store. I was not demeaning the store by calling it snotty. I meant it as a compliment and live around the corner and can’t wait until it is open. Thanks for commenting! Ashley
