Bankrate surveys mortgage experts each week to find out which direction they think rates will go over the next 30-45 days. Last week 50% of them saw mortgage rates going up and 50% saw mortgage rates dropping. This week 50% think rates will increase and 50% think rates will stay the same.

This is the first time in long string of weekly Bankrate surveys where no mortgage experts, not even a small percentage, thought rates would drop.
